Your first 30 days with NewLeaf
The first month is about foundation — portal access, understanding your file, and learning when to validate before you pay. This is a direction of travel, not a timeline promise and not a score guarantee.
Days 1–7: Get oriented
- Log in with your one-time code and confirm billing.
- Complete your profile and connect your credit report if prompted.
- Read your tradelines — who is reporting what?
- Start Learn: welcome and validation lessons in the portal.
Days 8–14: Validation mindset
If collectors call about debts you do not recognize, pause. Request validation in writing before sending money. Log every contact — dates, names, amounts claimed. See our walk-through of third-party collectors for FDCPA context — education only.
Days 15–30: First disputes (if supported)
When the file supports a challenge — wrong balance, not your account, duplicate reporting — organize a dispute with documents. The federal investigation clock typically runs 30 days (sometimes longer if you add information). FCRA clocks explained covers the basics.
If court mail arrives
A summons is not a collection letter. Do not ignore it. Upload to your portal and contact a licensed attorney in your state. We help you organize — we do not represent you in court.
Educational only — not legal advice. Not credit counseling. No score or timeline promises. Back to Journal.
